Education Help India (EHI) e. V. is committed to help children and young people in emergency situations - in Asian countries and especially in India.

In consideration of the enormous population growth on this continent, even in the 21st century there are countless situations in which human dignity and human rights are blatantly violated.

To provide help and to assist children and young people in word and deed, using the principles of help for self-help to set young people on a good path in life is the goal of Education Help India (EHI) e.V.

The projects supported by the association are currently focusing on India.

Here we support:

  • Children's homes as a place of refuge for existentially threatened children and teenagers
  • Out-of-school care and educational facilities for disadvantaged children and young people
  • Training facilities in which young people are taught manual or social skills
  • Education in secondary schools and universities
  • Humanitarian aid in the event of unforeseen natural disasters
India

The democratic and secular state has existed since 1949 and, according to official figures, has a population of well over 1.3 billion. Cultural characteristics vary greatly from region to region due to centuries-old traditions, and British colonial rule can still be felt in many places. Despite constitutional freedom of religion, Indian society is determined by the religious hierarchical caste system. The Hindus are by far the largest religious group, followed by Muslims, Christians and the Sikhs, Buddhists and Jaina, who historically originated in India. Today, despite a significant economic upswing, India's fundamental problems are still widespread poverty as well as severe overpopulation, increasing environmental pollution, and ethnic and religious conflicts between Hindus and Muslims. In addition, there is the ongoing dispute with Pakistan over the Kashmir region. Economically, India is considered an emerging economy and belongs to the O5 and BRICS countries and the group of the twenty most important industrialized and emerging countries (G20). According to many observers, the performance of the Indian economy has now reached top international levels in some sectors (information technology, pharmaceuticals). Education Help India (EHI) e.V. is currently supporting aid projects, particularly in Coimbatore and thus an important industrial location in the southwest of India in the state of Tamil Nadu. Of particular importance is the textile industry, which is why Coimbatore is known as the "Manchester of the South". According to the Indian census 2011, the district of Coimbatore has 3.5 million inhabitants. The population density is 731 inhabitants per square kilometer, which is higher than the state average. The area of Coimbatore district, which in its southern Indian appearance is a mixture of the Orient and the Caribbean, is 4,732 square kilometers wide. Around Coimbatore lie enormously large areas used for agriculture, where tea, coffee, cotton and oilseeds, among other things, are grown.

Education Help India (EHI) e.V. currently works primarily with the aid projects of Usha and Murli Menon. Influenced by fundamental Christian values, they have been committed to helping disadvantaged children in the region around Coimbatore for around two decades. They provide a variety of social and charitable services - such as:

  • Children's homes as reception centers for children and adolescents whose existence is threatened, especially females
  • Out-of-school care and educational institutions, which are particularly dedicated to caring for children and young people from slums
  • Training facilities in which young people are taught handicraft skills (including the manufacture of textile goods)
  • Support for qualifications in the secondary school system (attendance at secondary schools and colleges that are not subject to government funding)

Usha and Murli Menon base their social commitment, which members of the association have known and supported for many years, on Western European standards. For example, the construction and content of their childcare and educational facilities is far above average by national standards. For good reason: If the girls want to be able to stand on their own two feet in Indian society later on, they must have first-class qualifications. Currently, around a hundred children and young people are being cared for. Usha and Murli Menon are accompanied by a staff of social workers and educators who train them in their own training center in Coimbatore.
